McGee’s Promotion Could Mean Leaving MCRT
The possibility of McGee receiving a promotion raises questions about his future on the team. Previously, when Mark Harmon exited the series in Season 19, McGee was offered the chance to succeed Leroy Jethro Gibbs as the leader of MCRT. Despite being a natural fit for the position due to his tenure and mentorship under Gibbs, he declined the offer, citing the desire to avoid additional paperwork. Unlike Gibbs, McGee values time with his family, making the prospect of further responsibilities less appealing. Nonetheless, advancing in his career would necessitate his departure from MCRT unless Parker vacates his position, allowing McGee to step in. Even if he assumes the role of Director Vance’s deputy, his workload would likely diminish under the agency’s structure.

Despite the speculation, it’s unlikely that Murray’s McGee will leave NCIS. The direction CBS will take with this storyline remains uncertain. While the exploration of McGee’s often-overlooked career progression is captivating, it seems improbable that now is the appropriate time for such a significant change.
