Kelsey Grammer and Showrunners Tease Future Returns in Frasier Revival
Kelsey Grammer, alongside showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris, has sparked excitement about the possibility of bringing back familiar characters and locations in future seasons of the Frasier revival. The series, which serves as both a revival and sequel to the iconic sitcom that aired from 1993 to 2004—and itself a spinoff of Cheers—returns for its second season on September 19 on Paramount+. Set in Seattle, this season sees Grammer’s character reconnect with several KACL colleagues, including Bulldog (Dan Butler), Gil Chesterton (Edward Hibbert), and Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris).
Speculating on Future Returns
In an exclusive conversation with Screen Rant, Grammer and the showrunners discussed which characters they hope to see make a comeback in the future. Grammer shared a creative vision involving the Mulvihill Wine Cellar, while Cristalli and Harris expressed enthusiasm for revisiting Cheers characters, given Frasier’s return to Boston.
Kelsey Grammer’s Vision
Kelsey Grammer: “We’ve got a few characters in mind. It’s probably not wise to mention them yet, but there are some quirky possibilities. I recently thought about this during a visit to Crystal Springs, which has a connection to Kirby, Jean Smart’s character’s son. He dated a girl who Niles and Frasier believed was related to the Mulvihill Wine Cellar heiress. This real wine cellar at Crystal Springs might just find its way into the show. It’s an idea that struck me—one that aligns with the show’s essence.”
Grammer continued, “When I visited, I called Christopher Lloyd and asked, ‘Why haven’t we explored the Mulvihill Wine Cellar yet?’ It’s one of the most incredible wine cellars globally. David Lloyd, Chris’s father, used to write for Carson and possibly visited there. It’s an extraordinary place, just an hour outside Manhattan, and a must-see for wine enthusiasts.”
Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris’s Enthusiasm
Joe Cristalli: “There are several original characters we’d love to bring back, but it depends on finding the right storyline and aligning schedules. Ideally, we’ll include everyone we want from both the original Frasier and Cheers. There are so many options, it’s hard to pick a favorite.”
Chris Harris: “Frasier’s return to Boston opens up numerous possibilities. Although we’ve seen Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth), we haven’t fully tapped into the Boston connection. There are many Cheers characters who could make a reappearance, adding depth to the revival.”
Frasier Characters & Locations That Could Return in Future Seasons
The Mulvihill Wine Cellar & Cheers
Grammer’s intriguing proposal involves the Frasier reboot visiting the Mulvihill Wine Cellar. In Season 9, Episode 9 (“Finding Kirby”), Frasier and Niles vie for influence over Kirby (Brian Klugman), Jean Smart’s character’s son, due to his girlfriend’s connection to a renowned wine collector. Although the cellar never appeared in the original, Grammer envisions its inclusion in the reboot, potentially bringing Kirby back into the fold.
Cheers Characters’ Potential Return
10 Frasier & Cheers Characters We Most Want To Return In Season 2 Of The Reboot
Showrunners Cristalli and Harris hint at the potential return of characters from both Frasier and Cheers. Frasier’s relocation to Boston provides an opportunity to reintroduce beloved Cheers characters like Sam (Ted Danson), Diane (Shelley Long), Carla (Rhea Perlman), Norm (George Wendt), Cliff (John Ratzenberger), and Woody (Woody Harrelson). These characters previously appeared in the original Frasier and could enrich the reboot’s narrative.
