Upcoming Looney Tunes Blu-ray Release: A Treasure Trove of Unseen Classics
An eagerly anticipated Blu-ray release will soon unveil a collection of Looney Tunes animated shorts, many of which have never graced DVD or Blu-ray. Despite some recent setbacks for the beloved franchise, including Warner Bros. pulling projects from streaming and shelving the movie Coyote vs. Acme, the Looney Tunes legacy endures, with fans eager for more adventures of their favorite characters.
Details on the New Blu-ray Release
A Collector’s Choice
On the Warner Classics Facebook page, an exciting announcement was made: the Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Vol. 4 will join the Warner Archive Collection, continuing the tradition set by the preceding three volumes. This release, scheduled for November 26, will feature classic cartoons starring iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester, and Tweety. Presented in a 16×9 1.37:1 aspect ratio with side mattes, the Blu-ray will showcase 25 animated shorts spanning from the 1930s to the 1960s.
Special Bonus Features
Adding to the allure, this collection includes two bonus shorts: Lighter Than Hare starring Bugs Bunny and Stork Naked starring Daffy Duck. While these were previously available on DVD in the Looney Tunes Super Stars series, they were cropped to a widescreen format. The new release restores them to their original aspect ratio, offering a more authentic viewing experience.

Significance of the Blu-ray Release for Looney Tunes Fans
Expanding the Collection for Enthusiasts
The Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice series provides an excellent opportunity for physical media enthusiasts to enrich their collections. Between 2003 and 2008, the Looney Tunes Golden Collection was the primary source for new DVD releases, each set featuring approximately 60 shorts with abundant bonus content.
Every Looney Tunes Movie, Ranked Worst To Best (Including Space Jam 2)
Following the end of the Golden Collection, subsequent releases like the Super Stars and Platinum Collection series included a mix of new and previously available shorts. This often meant fans had to repurchase content they already owned, dampening enthusiasm for new collections. The latest release offers a refreshing change with genuinely new content that appeals to long-time fans.
Our Perspective on the New Looney Tunes Blu-ray
A New Avenue for Enjoying Classic Cartoons
Beyond just expanding collections, the new Blu-ray offers fans another way to enjoy timeless cartoons featuring some of the most beloved characters in animation history. Owning a physical copy ensures that these classics are accessible at any time, regardless of changes in streaming service offerings. In January 2023, over 250 classic Looney Tunes shorts were removed from Max during a content purge, highlighting the importance of physical media for collectors.
As the removal of content from streaming platforms becomes more common, having a tangible copy becomes increasingly valuable. Revisiting these cherished shorts can also stir excitement for upcoming releases like The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, featuring the return of Daffy Duck and Porky Pig to the silver screen later this year.
