Garrett Hedlund on Mitch’s Expanded Role in Tulsa King Season 2
In the much-anticipated return of Tulsa King on Paramount+, Garrett Hedlund teases the significant expansion of his character Mitch’s involvement in Season 2. Following the intense finale of Season 1, where Sylvester Stallone’s character, Dwight, faces arrest during the grand opening of his casino partnership with Mitch, the new season promises to delve deeper into the dynamics of this criminal empire. With the premiere of Season 2, Episode 1, titled “Back in the Saddle,” on September 15, audiences can expect weekly episodes until November 17.
Mitch’s Pivotal Role in Dwight’s Criminal Empire
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Hedlund elaborated on how Mitch’s role evolves in shaping the trajectory of Dwight’s expanding empire. While Season 1 was centered around Dwight’s initial establishment in Tulsa, Season 2 shifts focus to the operational phase of his criminal activities. Hedlund highlights the newfound trust between Mitch and Dwight, marking a transformation in their partnership.
“Yeah, it was a little different this year. I mean, in a good way. Last season, Mitch and Dwight’s characters had conversations and involvements together that were very singular, very mano a mano. They’re at the bar having an end-of-the-day discussion, or trying to configure how they were going to go about this next mission and what their obstacles were going to be and how to overcome them,” Hedlund explains.
He further notes, “For this one, Mitch is much more involved because he’s a much bigger part of this empire. Now that the empire has been established, he’s a part of it; he’s responsible for it. And so now it’s much more of an all-for-one, one-for-all kind of journey for all of them, which I think is enjoyable to watch. They’re all in it together. Whereas in the first season, they were trying to figure out if they could still trust everyone.”
Implications of Mitch’s Enhanced Influence
Possible Clashes with Old and New Allies
Mitch’s background as an ex-convict laid the foundation for a strong connection with Dwight Manfredi during Season 1. Dwight, having been banished from New York and tasked with setting up operations in a foreign environment, found solace in his dealings with Mitch. Mitch provided a sense of familiarity and camaraderie in Dwight’s new surroundings.
As the narrative unfolded, Dwight managed to recruit additional familiar faces to his unconventional Mafia ensemble. This includes persuading former Invernizzi soldier Armand (portrayed by Max Casella) and enticing Dennis “Goodie” Carangi (played by Chris Caldovino), a fellow New York-based Capo, to join his ranks.
Tulsa King Season 2 Cast & Returning Character Guide
With the release of Season 2, Episode 1, tensions arise as the crew grapples with Goodie’s self-imposed leadership during Dwight’s incarceration. Mitch’s growing influence could potentially lead to a showdown with Dwight’s seasoned Mafia counterparts. Mitch’s sway over Dwight, which includes decisions like hiring his cousin, may set the stage for a power struggle between Dwight’s old and new allies.
Analyzing the Evolution of Dwight’s Crime Family
The Unconventional Yet Potent Manfredi Clan
Initially, Dwight’s relocation to Oklahoma forced him to assemble a crew vastly different from the traditional Mafia circles he formerly commanded in New York. Despite their imperfections and unconventional traits, Dwight’s new crime family appears poised to become a formidable entity in his adopted hometown.
Nevertheless, the eclectic mix of ambitious and veteran criminals that forms Dwight’s new Manfredi family is likely to encounter internal tensions as individuals vie for dominance throughout Season 2 of Tulsa King.
