Bridget Moynahan, known for her role in *Blue Bloods*, recently shared her heartfelt experience of the last day of filming for the show’s 14th season. The popular police procedural, which debuted on CBS in 2010, was conceived by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess and focuses on the Reagan family, who are deeply entrenched in New York’s law enforcement. With a cast featuring Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Andrew Terraciano, the 14th season, which began airing earlier this year and will return in October, marks the series’ conclusion.
In an interview with *People*, Moynahan, who portrays Erin Reagan, daughter of Frank Reagan (played by Selleck), reflected on her final week of shooting, describing it as filled with emotions each day. She particularly remembered a poignant moment with Selleck, who visited the set to watch her and Wahlberg’s last scene, despite having already completed his filming. While the end of the series brings sadness, Moynahan described the final filming day as “quite beautiful.” Her words can be found below:
“We’re all a bit disappointed. We’ve had such an amazing time. We all want to continue. It’s a significant loss. This series has been our daily life for 14 years. We’ve shared major milestones together—births, deaths, marriages, divorces, illnesses—everything.
“One of the most memorable aspects of that last day for me, which I’ll always cherish, was Tom. He had finished his scenes but came to be present for Donnie and my final scene. We stood behind a monitor—I’m getting emotional thinking about it—and I had my arm around Tom. He held my hands just like my dad would. We both felt such gratitude and he was so gracious. From the beginning, it was always: ‘Nice to meet you. We are family.’
“That love, appreciation, and respect were ever-present without needing words. Watching our colleague, who was such a pivotal part of the show, finish his last scene was truly emotional.
“I feel immense gratitude for the support, encouragement, and for those who tuned in every Friday night, cared about the stories and characters, especially honoring the men and women in law enforcement who risk their lives for us.
“There were many lasts. And many wonderful conversations with people who have been there since the start. Lots of hugs and tears. It was quite beautiful.”
What Moynahan’s Reflection Suggests About the *Blue Bloods* Finale
This Era of the Show Concludes
The announcement that the 14th season of *Blue Bloods* would conclude the series surprised many fans. This led to the emergence of a #SaveBlueBloods campaign, with Selleck himself advocating for the show’s continuation. In an April interview with CBS News, Selleck emphasized, “All the cast wants to come back,” highlighting the show’s strong ratings.
New Blue Bloods Update Makes The Show's Cancellation After Season 14 More Confusing
In May, CBS executive Amy Reisenbach confirmed via *Deadline* that *Blue Bloods* was indeed ending, stating that “It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.” Since then, Paramount co-CEO Brian Robbins has mentioned that a *Blue Bloods* “franchise extension” is in development, although its exact form remains unclear. While a new series might include members of the Reagan family, Moynahan’s latest remarks suggest that the original cast viewed their final days as a definitive conclusion.
Our Perspective on the Conclusion of *Blue Bloods*
Can a Spinoff Achieve the Same Success?
Though actors playing friends and family on-screen don’t always share such bonds off-screen, Moynahan’s comments indicate that the central figures of *Blue Bloods* indeed enjoyed working together. There is evident mutual respect and admiration among the cast and crew, which significantly contributed to the show’s long-standing success. While more *Blue Bloods* drama seems to be on the horizon, any new series might struggle to replicate the original’s magic without its core cast.
The final eight episodes of *Blue Bloods* season 14 are set to premiere on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
