While he cherished the opportunity to delve deeper into his character within Reeves’ realm, Farrell expressed uncertainty about his interest in returning for another season, stating:
“I don’t know, man. Don’t get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was complaining to anyone who would listen that I desperately wanted it to be over. I tried to remind them that I had ‘grumpy gratitude.’ I was still grateful and honored – I grew up watching Burgess Meredith [who portrayed the character in the ’60s TV series], and then Danny DeVito [in Tim Burton’s 1992 film *Batman Returns*] was my Penguin – so being part of that storytelling lineage, I truly felt privileged. But by the end of it… It’s not like I lost myself and went on a rampage, but… when you combine what Matt Reeves created with Lauren [LeFranc, showrunner] and Mike [Marino, prosthetics and make-up designer]’s contributions, it was a really powerful experience.”
Why *The Penguin* Doesn’t Need a Second Season
Although *The Penguin* has yet to debut, the idea of HBO renewing it for another season feels premature. Certain narratives don’t require more than a single season, particularly since Farrell is set to reprise his role as The Penguin in *The Batman – Part II*. If a second season were to materialize, it would result in a prolonged wait for audiences, given that filming for *The Batman – Part II* is slated to commence early next year.
